Illinois
Keith P.:
When he was 17 years old, Keith was arrested for armed robbery when he took some of his schoolmate’s gym clothes. He had no previous arrests, but an Illinois law forced the judge to try him as an adult. Testimony from friends and family showed Keith to be a motivated child who even attended night school to make up classes missed while he was in jail. While impressed by the Keith’s motivation, the judge had no choice but to sentence him as an adult. Now that he has graduated high school, Keith’s plans to attend college will be severely hampered by this conviction.
